Jon Spruce Productions, LLC, was established in Philadelphia during the summer of 2022 but nobody did any work for the company until the creation of a sister-company called Evergreen Events in the spring of 2023.

During the summer and fall of 2023, Evergreen Events managed three weekly, outdoor, producer-only farmers markets, one in the Jenkintown suburb and two in Philadelphia. The three markets were dedicated to supporting local businesses. Throughout the course of the growing season, our markets featured over 20 growers, bakers, beekeepers, and food artisans. For the communities that helped us build and promote these markets, we provided a place for neighbors to buy fresh, wholesome, environmentally friendly food from the farmers and makers living among us.

In December 2023, Jon Spruce published The Philadelphia Understory: Volume One, a project that he’d been working on for over 10 years. That same month, The Propagation Station joined the syndicate and became a Jon Spruce Production, thus creating a new Plants & Publishing sister-company under the original LLC.

Here in the winter of 2024, the team at Jon Spruce Productions looks forward to re-opening the Evergreen Events farmers markets for the next growing season. We are very pleased to announce that we are now partnering with Swarthmore Town Center to help organize their farmers market, a market that’s been part of the borough’s community for over 15 years. The Plants & Publishing team is also looking forward to selling more plants and books for the 2024 season, including the forthcoming Volume Two of The Philadelphia Understory.
